It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
